The January Edit

Wow, well, what a January. Can’t say it was a great start to the year, it’s felt incredibly heavy. So, as we move into February I’m going to focus on what I can do, and what I’m grateful for. Which, is a lot. I spent a good portion of this month recovering from illness on to another but I’m back, baby!

I’m excited to start sharing a little but of the behind the scenes with you guys through the blog. Not everything makes it to the feed, because, you know, sometimes you just life and leave the phone behind. But, those experiences are still worth sharing. And everything there is to come!

As the monthly edits progress, expect books, every day items, upcoming events and specials and more on the blog. This month was a little laid back, so, let’s get into it!

this month’s eats

Oh Ceviche Davie

Easily one of my favorite restaurants in South Florida!!! I come here all the time, its created a great relationship between myself and the family who owns it. Being connected with them only makes me love it even more, you can taste the love and passion in the food. The chocolate cake here is my favorite!! Its a family recipe. Imma need that!!!

Chifa Du Kang

Another Peruvian restaurant? Yes, yes… BUT! Not just any Peruvian… Chifa! and this one is one of the bests. The family behind Chifa Du Kang has been in the food business since the 90s and in the 2000s brought their talents to us in Florida with the first Chifa on Bird Road in Miami, which still exists today! They’ve since expanded throughout south Florida, serving incredibly delicious and authentic Chinese Peruvian fusion, CHIFA!

Catching flights

This month, I headed to Sacramento, where I visit frequently. A little west coast love-filled escape is good for the soul sometimes!

This is a message for the In-N-Out deniers. The HATERS! if someone has told you that In-N-Out is overrated, I beg the question… compared to HWAT?! Because they are liars. The In-N-Out burger is delicious. Its fresh, the bun is toasty, the veggies are F R E S H, the flavor is exquisite. Now, I love a classic cheeseburger, and if you do too, this is the one. To my earlier point, its a tough competition with Shake Shack, but I can eat In-N-Out every day. I will not get sick of it. Now the fries…. well we can’t all be great at everything. (the secret is to get them crispy) This tweet took me out last week.

About an hour outside of Sacramento is a small town called Placerville with questionable history. I’ve come this place across by forced proximity. Anyway, the town’s “Main Street” (literally) looks like its out of a story book (you should see it around Christmas!) and any time I’m here I stop by The Bookery, quaint used bookstore that is a bit of a maze inside (my fave) with lovely staff, a cat, and bookmarks and stickers! I usually stop by Cuppa Coffee and More around the corner, get a quiche, an iced coffee or iced chai latte with coffee ice cubes and head over to buy myself a book. Truly one of my favorite things to do! I picked up DUNE and First Wives Club on this trip!

Whenever I’m in Sac, another must stop for me is Heat Shabu. I came across this spot years ago and it was my first time having hot pot. I’ve had it many times since, but honestly, nothing ever tops Heat Shabu! and if you’re looking to get TWISTED, they have these delicious bottles of Soju. Just try it, trust me.

book club

  • On Audiobook: I’m currently listening to Remarkably Bright Creatures for my job’s book club Sometimes its fun to go into a book knowing absolutely nothing about it because you start and next thing you know you’re listening to the inner monologue of an octopus! Isn’t reading fun? Jokes aside, this story is feeling much more profound and entertaining than expected! More soon once I finish.

  • Physical Copy: I read through the first six Throne of Glass books in a pretty small amount of time, once I got passed the first book (I started with Assassin’s Blade) the story took off for me. This series has a lot of action and a lot of tradegy, and makes for a complicated, strong and imperfect heroine. With that said, I’m on the most annoying character’s (Chaol) book, Tower of Dawn. Theres nothing wrong with this book, I just don’t care. But, once I finish this book, I’ll be on the last of the series, which I’m told will break my heart in two, and I’m not ready for that. So, I’m taking my time with TOD, because these stories always unfold beautifully (and possibly, tragically).
